Close to Puerto Vallarta and Yelapa, in the municipality of Cabo Corrientes, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, this well equipped, beautifully appointed palapa on Banderas Bay sleeps two to five people comfortably. Filled with local artisan crafted furnishings, the palapa includes a fully equipped kitchen, great room with daybed, open decks, two separate bedrooms with queen-size beds, and one bathroom. Whether watching the ocean, taking in the amazing thatched roof, or admiring the wildlife, the Dos Mulas palapa in a lovely eco preserve allows you to unplug from your every day stress and relax. Even the water taxi ride is part of the vacation. There are no roads to this eco village, so the life here unfolds differently than in a town or city.
Minimum booking is 2 nights. Maximum booking is 30 nights. A 15% discount applies when you stay for a week; a 25% discount applies with you stay for a month. $20 per night will be added if more than 2 guests book to cover extra cleaning and laundry.
Guests have full use of palapa with the following available:

On booking the palapa, we will provide all the necessary information on the how, when, why, who and where's of getting to Los Chonchos, starting with arriving in vibrant Puerto Vallarta, shopping for food, finding the water taxi, etc., etc. The palapa will be ready for your arrival and the caretaker will be there to assist you. We will be available by phone and email during your stay.
Basic logistics to help you plan your stay at Dos Mulas:
Fly into Puerto Vallarta Airport ("PVR").
Allow time to get through customs (1 hour approx).
Part A) Taxi to a hotel in Puerto Vallarta's El Centro, the Romantic Zone (15-20 min). Stay overnight. Shop, eat a nice meal, buy groceries if you're planning to cook. Continue the next AM with directions under Part B.
Part B) Taxi south 1 hour, non-rushing, (or 75 min directly from airport) to seaside village of Boca de Tomatlan, where you will meet the Nayely Water Taxi at the dock. It usually runs twice daily, at 9am and 3pm, for 180 pesos per person one way, paid after you're on the boat. During COVID, schedule can change. As of Jan. 2021 the water taxi is only running in the morning. Allow 40-60 minutes along a stunningly vivid coastline to arrive at Los Chonchos.
Alternative Option: Charter a private boat through Los Chonchos, $150 US one-way. I would arrange this for you.
Leaving Los Chonchos: Nayely Water Taxi picks up at Chonchos about 11am and 5pm and will have you at Boca de Tomatlan in an hour. Taxis are waiting dockside, and you can take them to Puerto Vallarta or the airport.
Depending on your flight schedule, you might stay the night in Puerto Vallarta before leaving.

The neighborhood
Los Chonchos is an eco-preserve situated south of Puerto Vallerta in a protected 40 acres of jungle. There are only 20 palapas in this beautiful, untouched area of Mexico. There are three amazing beaches, starting with the small cove the water taxi lands on, the pebble beach on which sits Casa de Dos Mulas, and the long beach just 5 minutes walk (as shown in the pictures) from the palapa. You are likely to be the only one on the beach! Keep to yourself, or join the other visitors and inhabitants twice a day as the water taxi visits, help the new visitors off the taxi, and share the news of the day - it is entirely up to you!
Getting Around
Being at Los Chonchos feels like you are on an island because there are no roads to the eco preserve. The only way to get to Los Chonchos is by water taxi from the bustling seaside village of Boca de Tomatlan, 60 minutes leisurely by taxi along "the Mexican Riviera" coastline road south from Puerto Vallarta. Once at Los Chonchos, if you want more groceries or a meal out, you can hike to the village of Chimo (about an hour in good shoes) or take the water taxi at fixed and limited daily schedules south to Chimo or north to Yelapa. Take time in Yelapa to check out the waterfalls and drink a cold beer on the beach - a great day trip!
