The Barranco de la Mina ravine crosses the island of Gran Canaria towards the northeast and flows into the island's capital. La Mina has a small flow of water thanks to the centuries-old transfer of water from the Tejeda basin to the Guiniguada basin through a gallery that crosses the mountain, which is why it was christened La Mina. San Mateo also shares with Tejeda the "reign" of the Gran Canarian peaks, since - as mentioned above - in its vicinity are the highest peaks of the island: Pozo de las Nieves, Los Pechos, Roque Saucillo and Montaña Constantín, all reaching almost 2,000 metres above sea level.
