Welcome to Birdsong Cottage where you’re just steps away from the beautiful Chesapeake Bay, Sandy Point State Park, nature trails for hiking and biking, and of course, peace and tranquility. This charming, cottage was renovated with thoughtful care and love. As you pass through the gates of the white picket fence and travel down the driveway and see the manicured landscaping and cottage gardens, it almost feels as if you’re entering a storybook setting. The calming tones chosen for the exterior of the home set the stage for the soothing color palette throughout the interior. A large living room with decorative fireplace and comfy, cozy seating provide you with a front row view to settle in and watch for giant ships and tugboats as they power up the Bay. Enjoy a movie on the flat screen TV, curl up with a good book and a glass of wine, or just sit dreamily and watch the sailboats sail by.
The furnishings throughout the home are a little bit shabby chic and vintage, and elegant and modern all rolled into one. Natural and painted wood floors throughout the home add to the character and warmth. A large dining room with a farm table will comfortably seat 6 for your dinner party. The kitchen is bright and cheery with updated appliances and a few vintage touches that remain in this circa 1946 cottage. A mudroom with plenty of storage for coats, shoes, and boots, and convenient access to the side yard is located just off the kitchen.
If first floor living is important to you, you’ll love that this little cottage has not one, but 2 bedrooms on the main level. Both share a full bath with a tub/shower combo and a single sink vanity. The Madrid Room is elegantly furnished with a queen bed, a wardrobe for storage, and a desk for any work you may need to do. The Blue Medallion Room is comfortably furnished with 2 twin XL beds, 2 dressers for storage, TV, and a ceiling fan to take advantage of the Bay breezes.
On the second floor, you’ll find 2 additional bedrooms where 3-4 more guests will be comfortable. The Harry Potter Room tucked under the eaves, is furnished with a double bed and some small storage areas. The Colors of the Bay Room, the primary bedroom, is beautifully appointed with a king bed and exposed beams that give an open and airy feel to the space. If you wake up early enough to see the sun coming up, you’ll see the same soft colors on the ceiling that you’ll see on the bay. The owners hand painted it to reflect all the different colors that the sunrise and the water have to offer anyone lucky enough to see it. Both bedrooms on the 2nd floor share a beautiful full bath with a large walk-in shower and a copper basin which adds a creative pop of color amidst the gray and white hues.
Finally, on the second floor, you’ll find a cozy lounge area where you can sneak away and have a quiet space to just relax.
The exterior of the home features an expansive front yard with huge Bay views and a backyard with plenty of room for outdoor entertaining, running, playing, and being one with nature. Stroll through the gardens and hear the call of the osprey nesting nearby or watch for the Bald Eagle that perches in the trees behind the house. The property backs up to Corcoran Woods, a nature preserve comprised of 210 acres with hiking and biking trails. Perhaps ride your bike or hike to the beaches of Sandy Point State Park. A short stroll from the cottage is the Pony Pasture and Alpaca Field. Depending on the time of year, you may just be lucky enough to see a newborn foal on your walk.
